What’s new in Windows 11

Personalised workspaces, a simplified user experience and improved security are some of the features of Microsoft’s new operating system.

• Simplified design and user experience. The goal is to boost productivity and inspire creativity. From the new Start button to the taskbar, every sound, font and icon has been redesigned for simplicity.
• A unified experience across all devices. The new Home button takes center stage by leveraging the cloud and Microsoft 365 to show recent files no matter what platform or device you were using them on before, even if they are Android or iOS devices.
• Personalizing your workspace. The new ‘Snap Layouts’, ‘Snap Groups’ (Windows’ window organization methods) and Desktop management in Windows 11 make multitasking easier so that each user can adjust their workspace to their needs at any given time. With these new features, you can organize windows and optimize screen space with a visually clean design.
• Teams integration in the taskbar. This allows users to instantly connect via text, rich chat, voice or video with anyone, anywhere across Windows, Android and iOS.
• Improved gaming experience. Windows 11 offers various features to enjoy games on your computer, such as Auto HDR, Direct Storage, and access to the Xbox app to enjoy different titles through Xbox Game Pass.
• Widgets. Thanks to the new AI-powered personalized feed, you can have the most relevant information delivered directly to your Desktop. Widgets also opens up a new space within Windows for creators to offer personalized content.
• New Microsoft Store. The new Windows has created a more open ecosystem for developers and creators, as well as a faster and more secure experience for IT professionals. New Android apps are also expected to arrive on Windows. They can even be downloaded through the Amazon Appstore.
• Strengthened security.  It has new integrated security technologies that add protection, such as the chip to the cloud. To do this, Windows 11 offers an operating system prepared for ‘Zero Trust’, which protects data and access on all devices. On the other hand, and because this new environment is based on the Windows 10 foundation, it is also safer and faster for IT professionals thanks to elements such as Microsoft Endpoint Manager, cloud configuration, Windows Update for companies and Autopilot, which allow a natural integration of Windows 11.

• Accessibility. With new accessibility improvements created by and for people with disabilities.
• Speed, efficiency and user experience. Thanks to touch interaction, digital pen usage possibilities and voice instructions.
• Hybrid Work. Delivering a user experience that’s tailored to today’s realities, secure by design, and familiar to IT departments so they can easily deploy and manage it. Businesses can now also try Windows 11 Preview on Azure Virtual Desktop or, at launch, on the new Windows 365.

When will it be available?

Windows 11 will be available on October 5 for all those who have Windows 10 computers (and meet certain requirements) and on new devices. Users who have a Windows 10 computer that is eligible for the upgrade will receive a notification from Windows Update when the installation is available on their device. However, Windows 10 users who want to know the requirements and compatibility with their current computer to receive the free upgrade to Windows 11 can do so on the Windows website , through the PC Health Check application, available to members of the Windows Insider community.
